We had a funny day today. Let me start off by saying yesterday I was getting my daily dose of Oprah. It was about Crystal Meth and how it destroys peoples lives through addiction. Chance happened to be in the room and I contemplated on whether he should be watching the program or not, but I then thought it was okay because it would be a good conversation starter.
So, today Chance and I were in the pool while Jay was babysitting. Greg was at work. We were floating around the pool and I thought it would be a great time to bring up the program, a little one on one time. I began to ask Chance if he remembered the show and he said yes. In my most motherly way I asked him how he felt about it and made sure he understood. He said to me, "Is this one of those times, like moments, that you shouldn't pass up with your child to talk about drugs. Like that commercial says?"
Ummmmm, can we say Caught off guard?
I suddenly realized that my child is embracing every aspect of cable television.
My response, "Yes Chance, thats right"
"Okay then Mom go ahead" was his reply as he bobbed his head up and down and went under for sunken pennies.
What do you say after that? He kinda finalized the conversation for me.
Just wait the day is not over............
When we made it inside, Jay still babysitting began a conversation with his brother. I have no clue what it started with but this is what I heard.....
Chance: "Yeah, I learned that in school"
Jay: "Will you quit saying you learned everything in school, its like you think you are
ELBERT EINSTINE or somethin"
Chance :"Maybe I am Elbert EINSTEIN"
Jay: "You know when you think your really smart, it makes you look really dumb!"
All this followed up with the boys realizing I actually had colored TV when I was their age BUT I only had 3 channels, per Chance.

too funny!!! i can hardly wait for his response to a 'sex talk':) janis
LOL on the potential for sex talks! That is too funny!! You should email the makers of the "Make a Difference" commercials & tell them they can put a little less emphasis on the kids market segment, since it kind of messes up the moment when you are fighting off giggles after being called out for having a big talk by your son :) He is a at a really cool age. I'm equally impressed with Jay's analogy to Elbert though, haha, you are in for some fun years of eavesdropping!
Hey what a great site keep up the work its excellent.
